ABOUT ASTAPURE®

The brand name AstaPure® is a standardized microalgae extract containing Haematococcus pluvialis. Among all the algae, H.pluvialis is the most concentrated natural source of astaxanthin.

The carotenoids family includes astaxanthin, which is a fat-soluble pigment of yellow, orange, or red color. Astaxanthin is a pigment that occurs on the red end of the carotenoid pigment spectrum and is produced by a variety of freshwater and marine organisms. Salmon and crustaceans (including shrimp, crab, lobster, and crayfish) get their orangey-red color from this pigment, while flamingos are pink because of this pigment. Like humans, these organisms do not make their own astaxanthin, but they do consume it through the aquatic food chain.

A phytoprotective compound called astaxanthin, more of which is made when the environment is stressful, so that a microalgae like H.pluvialis is protected from ultraviolet radiation from direct sunlight. Due to its fat-soluble nature, astaxanthin is a powerful antioxidant anywhere there is a high lipid content.

Cell membranes (which have a lipid bilayer), mitochondria, and the brain and nervous system are among the places where lipids are found. Even compared to other carotenoids, astaxanthin's shape makes it useful for stabilizing and protecting lipid membranes.

A growing body of research surrounds astaxanthin's potential benefits for brain function, immune health, skin health, vision, and other areas of wellness and performance. The chemical structure of this substance allows it to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and accumulate in the brain [1,2].*
